Hygienic remote controls for hotels, hospitals and clinics

The remote control is one of the most handled and least cleaned objects in a guest room or patient room. Sealed, wipeable remotes let housekeeping and clinical teams disinfect them properly without destroying the device.

What makes a remote hygienic

A standard remote has gaps around every button where residue collects and liquid enters. A hygienic model is built to be cleaned repeatedly.

  • Sealed membrane or one-piece surface with no button gaps
  • Housing rated for repeated alcohol-based disinfectant wiping
  • Antibacterial additive in the plastic housing
  • Sealed or screw-locked battery compartment

Where it matters most

Hospitals, clinics and care homes usually work to a defined cleaning protocol, so the remote must survive daily disinfection. In hotels and resorts the driver is guest perception: a visibly clean, wipeable remote supports the housekeeping standard the property advertises.

Building it into the cleaning protocol

Add the remote to the room checklist alongside light switches and door handles.

  • Wipe at every room turnover, not only on deep-clean days
  • Use the disinfectant the manufacturer specifies to avoid clouding
  • Keep a small spare pool so cleaning never delays a room release
  • Standardise on one model per property for simpler training and stock
